OpenAI Co-Founder: AI Agents Still a Decade Away
The development of AI agents has been a topic of significant interest in recent years, with many experts predicting a rapid advancement in the field. However, according to Andrej Karpathy, co-founder of OpenAI, we are still about 10 years away from achieving true AI agents. This move reflects broader industry trends, where the focus is shifting from narrow, specialized AI models to more general, autonomous agents. Karpathy’s statement is significant, given his experience in leading Tesla’s self-driving efforts from 2017 to 2022. He notes that while large language models (LLMs) have made huge progress, there is still a lot of “grunt work” to be done before we can achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI).
